People take medicines to fight illness in the first place. “Illness" and “medicine” go hand in hand, and are dependent on one another. Pills are ubiquitous and common in our daily lives, but here, the pills are not only medical treatment, it also depicts people's desires, like a "panacea"; people rely on pills to meet the various needs of life, which leads to a better living. Where does the illness come from? What is the cure? This is exactly what the artist wants to explore. Taking pills is an extremely common behavior, but the faces in this series of portraits indicates pathological physiological reactions full of hunger, thirst and suffocation, thus revealing the depth and psychological complexity of the "disease". This illness is not a physical disease, it refers to the alienated living state of modern people and extreme psychological anxiety.
