Scroll is a series of experimental photographs that explores panoramic images beyond the single frame. Composed multiple shots made in succession on 120-format film, the works reconstruct imagined landscapes and conceptual spaces, bringing still photography into cinematic movement.
The images are exceptionally long, narrow, and horizontal. Shot directly with the camera, without computer manipulation or digital effects, the entire strip of film was deliberately preserved, including its edges and markings. Simply put, one roll of film becomes one image.
"Scroll A" focuses on daily life and human activity in Beijing’s public spaces. "Scroll B" moves through old streets, lanes, and traditional architecture. Drawing on the scattered perspective of traditional Chinese painting, the works transform the photographic instant into a continuous flow of time and space, creating poetic, abstract scrolls.
"长卷"是艺术家九十年代末的一系列实验性摄影作品，艺术家意图探索全景景观图像，通过打破单画幅成像的片框束缚，用120毫米胶卷连续性拍摄，将摄影的瞬间性（定格）与电影的连续性（流动）结合，重建虚构景观和意念空间。通过这样的拍摄手法，作品横向展开，格外狭长。这些图像均由相机直接拍摄，无任何电脑合成或数字化效果，并有意保持整条胶片的完整性及边沿上的数码。简单的说，一个胶卷就是一幅图像。"卷轴A"聚焦于北京日常生活和公共空间的人类活动，"卷轴B"则穿梭在老街巷和传统建筑之间。借用中国传统绘画的散点透视原理，使“瞬间”变为连续性的时空流动，成就了独具一格而又饱含诗意的抽象卷轴。
